How Get in the Right Rhythm with Your International Freight Forwarder

Posted by Reid Malinbaum on Tue, Jul 26, 2016 @ 04:13 PM

Greatness, even in shipping, comes from repetition

Over the 30+ years I've been doing this, I've received shipping requests for everything you can possibly imagine... from cars, to factory equipment, to entire factories! Some of our business comes in the form of one-offs, but we also have our regulars, who import and/or export frequently.

For those of you who ship often, we have to find a rhythm, build rapport, and establish transparent lines of communication quickly, because there are no second chances. Your shipments are important, and if they don't arrive on time, or there are numerous "unforeseen" circumstances right out of the gate, that's not going to make you feel very confident the next time through.

There's also a quick turnaround expectation, so the issue becomes compounded. But, we have a system, and I'm going to share it with you! Today, I'm going to talk about Air or Ocean Freight Consolidations or full straight container loads.

What is a Letter of Credit, and How Could It Anchor My Overseas Shipment?

Posted by Reid Malinbaum on Thu, Mar 24, 2016 @ 09:30 AM

Don't let a misfired "letter of credit" Keep you from delivering the goods

A recent client of ours was shipping truck parts and large tractor tires to Djibouti, East Africa. They had a letter of credit (LOC) that they showed to my international freight forwarding company after a freight quote was requested & after a firm booking was already in place with a carrier.

After thoroughly reviewing the conditions of the LOC we ran into a rather big problem - it didn't really agree with the freight quote we had already provided or the client's intentions for their shipment.

You see, they thought the LOC is as good as money in their pockets, but they did not take into account it undermining the outcome of their payment & the shipment altogether.

How to Identify the Right Specialty Freight Services

Posted by Sean Chartier on Mon, Jun 29, 2015 @ 08:53 AM

SIMPLE is a STATE OF MIND When it Comes to Specialty Freight Services

We had a great opportunity for a complex & interesting shipping project with a client recently, which stuck with me, because it is a true testament to how challenging it can be to move items overseas and across borders. I think a lot of people take it for granted, because at the consumer level, we go to the grocery store to buy our food, the gas station to buy our fuel, and a dealership to buy our cars.

The public doesn't see what goes on to make these modern conveniences... well.. convenient. If you were to flip on the TV and settle on your favorite sport, like car racing, for example, you just get to see fast cars, their famous drivers, and hundreds of thousands of fans watching as they scream around the track.

But how did that car get there? Who shipped it, and why did they choose that particular route?

Our client happened to fit this bill. They were planning on attending a series of races in Europe, and needed freight forwarding services to help them make it happen.

Are you planning on securing specialty freight services to move your items overseas or across borders? Then these considerations are for you!
